Surely for extra money a broker could get it done.

I found one I like as a "base". Then I would put my own seat on it. But of course fantasies right now.

Very true. The R-Trak in US might be the latest greatest RWD option. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ke-7Mt9gC2E

Thats a terrible design.

Its literally as long as an oil tanker. The user is sat directly on the small front wheels to prevent it ever steering properly, the drive wheels are way way too far back so you will feel every little bump as the small caster wheels ride over a bump. The drive wheels will basically have almost no traction over an uneven surface and it will try and tear up carpets as the rearward mounted drive wheels attempt to move you and those casters side to side to steer the thing.

Run away. Watch the vid. It shows you everything thats wrong. Even the jiggling caused by sitting over the front end on those slabs.

Exactly. The seat needs to go back at least 6 inches.

No. I had one for testing and evaluation. To play with for a bit. The guy running independence technology europe has a mum, she lives in my hometown and so he killed 2 birds with one stone and brought me it so he could visit his mum all the way from switzerland. Tested this a year or so before they made them ready for market. What do I think?

Programming abysmal, and no way to fix. It goes where it chooses.
As a daily chair in NORMAL mode its runs on its rearmost drive wheels and very small massively overloaded front casters. So its a long tank that wont steer well and follows edged and so only any use on smooth flat surfaces in straight lines. Just too nose heavy, too long. Small rock hard casters feel every crack.
I tested the later ibot 4000 on a different year and it was exactly the same.

In 4 x 4 mode IN STRAIGHT LINES its great. or on loose ground. But it tears its very fragile skinny tubed tyres up and nearly pulls them off the rims if you turn on good paved surfaces. So you couldnt use it for the street unless for curbs. Only. So that means mode changes.

In its BALANCE mode its great. But slow. And easy to get to fall... If you try. You learn what it can do (while the guy grabs it) and avoid the traps!

Stair climbing was pretty much a waste of time for me. You need a hand rail. And some physical strength. And when I did it it overheated and shut down after a few goes half way up... Saying needs service and displayed a spanner (wrench) and shut down! Thats fun. And I was under the max weight limit. Pretty much like curbs, I dont see a need for climbing those either. Range is apparently very limited too.

So it is not any good as a daily chair. But the BALANCE mode is fun and I like. And best range.
But in trying to do all things its really isnt any good at any of the others. Some of that I could fix. But also I dont need. Like stair climbing. Which is still very physical. Swapping from one mode to another takes too long too. And you need to a lot.

If I made an ibot it would have no casters, be 4x4, with TOUGH and fat tyres designed for skid steer. It would have 2 modes. 4x4 and balance. And while it would tear up carpets indoors, it would be great outdoors. But would need that 230Ah battery.

If you had one, I'm sure it would look different ;) . I've never seen it practical for a person with very limited mobility, especially trying to climb stairs, as you mention. But it's a different concept for a chair. I'm glad they're trying things like this.

It was a bit of an experiment and got put into production to show what Johnson & Johnson could do. A sort magic do everything fantasy trip.

Let me assure you that I would much prefer the BM2 that I was using at the time. Yes the tricks were nice as a bit of fun. But if it was 10 to closing time at the pub and I wanted a beer I can get there much faster and with less stress in my own chair. It was a better daily indoor/outdoor chair. And I had he choice.

I didnt buy one.

Every one of the 4 modes was flawed. The trip to the pub for e.g would involve several mode changes. Because the zero suspension and seriously harsh and flawed front casters with huge wheelbase meant changing to 4x4 mode along what passes for our pvements. And its not a thing you can hurry. In a way it reminds me of the terribly slow seat elevators we have to suffer. Mostly that gets unused when out and about. Say to get served in the pub. Because we cant wait for it to get up and down again. The barmaid has gone someplace else by the time it works.
