Can the brake be sparated from the motor?

Postby snaker » 07 Oct 2025, 09:09

I am going to buy a new powerchair, a Chinese one. I also want to order spare motors for future use. The seller tell me that the motor does not have the brake inside, the magnet brake is separated from the motor. I have not seen this kind of separated brake. It is possible or do they miss something?

In most cases the brake is just bolted to the end of the motor. Some chinese dont bother fitting a brake... Which is dangerous as chair can roll off a train platform or into traffic/down a ramp/hill or something if unpowered. Say turned off or breaker trips. But on some chinesium chairs there is a brake - manually operated, on the frame or motor someplace.

Be sure you can reach it while accelerating down a slope! hanged

They gave me this video. I only see the gearbox separated, the brake is till fixed on the motor. But they confirmed the brake can be removed as a separated part. They gave me the quote for each motor, gearbox, brake.

That is the same as every wheelchair.

Heres the thing. Motors, gearboxes, brakes normally come as a single unit as they all wear ot together. Theres seldom any point replacing parts seperately.

Brake can be 12 or 24V so make sure you know what you are buying! Get motor with the lowest possible impedance.

I think she meant that the brake is bolted onto the motor end. That's true to all wheelchair motors as Burgerman said.
They are all over Taobao and inexpensive.

I'm sure your papa will find a way to make adaptation to fit one if necessary.
