Both methods are still used.
Lately theres more of the ones that dont free the motor though. No idea why. Maybe cost.

Yes, it could be cost.
Regarding the noise of 4pole motors, is it true that 4 pole are noisier than 2 poles due to the friction of brushes 4 compared to the friction of 2 poles?

You shouldnt hear the brushes unless your ear is right next to them.

Mechanical stuff that spins often makes a noise. Can you hear the brushes on your vaccuum cleaner? Or food mixer?

On a 4 pole there are more power pulses per revolution, and they start and end more suddenly. So that you feel it and that might make more noise.

Have a listen to this chair.
Silent when slow. You hear birds tweet. Then Sounds like a motorcycle.
I made it faster!

Towards the end of the vid, turn up sound.
At 1.24

Theres nothing wrong, sounds of motor working! And reving higher.

Wonderful video and chair.
My Sunrise Q300R makes more noise at slow speed and much more at high speed.

AMT motors tend to be quiet. Linix tend to be louder on your chair. Doesent mean anything is wrong.

Yes, I know there’s nothing wrong, but at home or at the office I feel it very noisy. Could the noise come from the gearbox? I mean, depending on the type of gears (metallic or plastic) or the ratio could be noisier?

It comes from everything. All the bearings, gears, motor armature spinning and whooshing air around, motor pulses amplified through the cush drive/geartrain, etc. And it can be amplified by the way its mounted and to what. So it may sound quiet on the bench and noisy on the chair for e.g. I dont know what to tell you. It just is what it is. Some are louder than others. Coming from open exhaust weekend drag race refugee street bikes, with enough noise to break a window in the next county I am not very sensitive to little electric motors! They all sound inofensive to me.

The only ones that really stood out as silent were brushless direct drive motors. You can creep up on people.

WOW! The steering is absolutely amazing!
I never understood the need for five different profiles.
it is so much better just to push the joystick to match the speed you want to make the chair go.

No more hovercraft mode!!!
