PostPosted: 06 Aug 2010, 19:15
by Burgerman
I started doing a page here http://www.wheelchairdriver.com/powerchair-parts.htm

But kept getting sidetracked. So will link that page to this topic here.

So feel free to add links here. And to update and delete as needed.

Pride (overpriced) parts here in the US (Full parts and prices catalogue) http://www.southwestmedical.com/replace ... -mobility/

Sunrise (in the UK - There are others in other countries) http://parts.sunrisemedical.eu/uk/login/login.php use guest, guest for login/pass.

Give each post a new title so these links can be searched. And I will make this a sticky.

Bearings in stainless steel

Stainless bearing galore!

Standard powerchair and wheelchair bearings dont "wear out" they corrode. They get water in past the rubber seals due to hair etc and then fail. Stainless does not corrode. Powerchair manufacturers should fit these as stock.

I replaced every one of mine with stainless ones because the salt and crud that gets in from the roads dont kill them. Caster, caster fork, anti tip are all standard easy to get and cheap. Grease them all over when you fit them and they will come out as easily as they went in and still work fine 5 years down the line.

Some are 2 ply. Some are 4. Some are tubeless. Some are not. Tubes are available too. But at these low 4 to 8 psi pressures and the light footprints they seldome puncture anyway. I have tubes in one set and the rest are all 4 ply tubeless. But the pressures are so low that if you kick the side the tyre will deflate! So dont! Or use a tube.

This isn't a powerchair part, but it's extremely helpful inside your home-

Offset hinges: http://www.amazon.com/Duro-Med-Expandab ... 614&sr=8-2

We have a pair of these on the bathroom door, and it adds at least an extra inch of width to the door when it's open. It's a little hard to get everything aligned so that the door still closes easily, but the extra inch makes a big difference on a daily basis.

The cheapest place I could find it on the net in the UK was from Robot Birds.
http://robotbirds.com/catalog/product_i ... ts_id=5832

159.52 Euros. That's £134.95 in real money. £141.45 inc. Recorded Special Delivery. (Came the day after the despatch-notification email.)

Does anyone know of anywhere cheaper in the UK? Because I'm getting another one.

P&G Progmamming s/w

I bought my software from Robert Lee, mrmobility@consolidated.net, on Garry's recommendation.

It came with a 2m cable included (made by P&G UK!) which had the 3 pin Canon XLR / Neutrix plug on one end and a serial plug on the other.

Just plugged in, set the serial port to COM 1 in the s/w, and it worked!

I understand that you can also order the cable with a 4 pin scooter connector.

Best,

Martin

At the request of BM, reposted:

First, can I take this opportunity to thank Garry for finding Robert Lee - Mr. Mobility.

I bought my software and cable from Robert Lee, had a setup problem which he resolved by return e-mail (choice of com port), run it on a 10 year old IBM notebook via the serial port, and it does all that I expected. I can't offer a better recommendation.

e-mail him at mrmobility@consoildated .net

Note that there is the cable with the 3 pin Neutrix connector for our powerchairs, amd also another 4 pin one used for scooters. I paid $350.00 to him, and HMRC took some £41 in VAT & charges via the Post Office when it got here - I am awaiting the refund!

Best,

Martin

Goods imported by post into the UK

Tyres, motors, controllers, batteries, parts for adapted cars, electric beds, or anything related to your disability or mobility.

If the goods are being sent to you by post, ask the sender to write clearly on the package and its accompanying customs declaration:

'GOODS FOR DISABLED PEOPLE: RELIEF CLAIMED'

Or pay 20 percent extra, plus customs charges. ESPECIALLY if buying from the US...

Hello everyone
It's been a while since I posted but I did finish the chair and it worked great...but
It's improvement time!
Will fill in on the chair on my original post

So this post is about obtaining motors
We Just bought 2x 750 watt wheelchair motors off alibaba.com
http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/233370660/ZHP_Series_Power_Wheel_Chair_Gear.html
Have only opened the box As have been home with the bloody flu
Tired me out just opening the box
They look good though
Hope to have a proper look this weekend
US $170 each plus shipping and payment costs
they only take telegraphic transfer which is a nuisance as T/T,s are a bit pricey
Approx $600 Australian delivered to my door all up for the pair of them
Came by air. I don't think they have sea freight

Well according to the sticker on the side its 700 Watts and 4600rpm
I have emailed Nina and asked for info about torque etc.
I wasnt that concerned about torque as its for my wifes chair so the designed payload is modest.
But power= Torque x RPM so if there 700 watts at 4600 rpm there should be good torque there as well

All the data you require appears to be there ..
The Ohms value is indeed in Mohms and they appear to have given values for their motor range 450 - 700 watts.

So... assuming the No Load motor current = 5.0 Amps and a 0.5 volt voltage drop for the voltage.

Watts=(RΩ/4)x(((rated_voltage-0.5)/RΩ)-No_Load_Current)^2
= (0.19/4)x ( ( 23.5/0.19) - 5 ) ^2
= 692 watts

Rpm per volt = 4600/24 = 191.66 from the data plate
or equation 4600/((24-0.5)-( 5 x 0.19)) = 204 rpm/volt
Stall current approx 120 amps
Motor Torque = 0.47 Nm/A
Peak efficiency close to 64%

There should be 4 wires ...two for the brake and two for the motor.
