Can you connect a stepper motor to an Arduino Nano?

Postby Melona » 29 Jul 2024, 07:03

Hello,
Apologies in advance if this is a stupid question. I decided to make something with an Arduino. As a project I chose a kind of M&M dispenser.
I want a Nema 11 stepper motor to spin when a button is pressed, to which is attached a wheel with a kind of chamber embedded in it. A bit like a gumball machine, except that the rotation is not done using muscle power, but with the help of a motor. Can you connect a stepper motor (including the driver and the button) to an Arduino Nano? Or does it not have enough connections? I already know the required circuit from several tutorials.
Since the Nano is much cheaper than the Uno, the Nano would be my first choice if possible. I am quite new to Arduino, but have experience with CAD and 3D printing, so making the housing and other components would not be a problem.
Thank you in advance for your answer.

The Nano actually has 2 more I/O pins than the Uno (though those two are analog only, the rest are digital or analog as one wishes). You will (and I think you already know this) need an add on board to handle the current draw of the motor.

1 post and a link. No mention of disability or powerchairs etc. This is a bot post I think, a link dropper. So a quick search finds this guy/bot posts 1 post about his stepper motors in various places. So I deleted the stepper motor link.

Also https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=heyuting0723&ia=web same email address...
If I search for other stuff in his profile I find more of it. Link dropping spam. I think.
