R-net CJSM2 screen protectors

Postby Burgerman » 18 Sep 2024, 12:34

I am fed up with these things looking like they are all scratched. These screens are soft plastic. A bit of dust and a cloth and they are already scratched. Its also impssible to buy a pre cut glass hard protector.

The best ones used on phones and cameras are super thin, flexible toughened glass hardness with a silicone adhesive coat on the rear. You cannot tell they are fitted, looks like and behaves like a real glass screen.

These are 0.25mm thick, and 9H hardness meaning you cant scratch them even with a key or a screwdriver... And are easy to apply. The adhesive is soft and covers and fills any existing scratches as long as relatively fine. Leaving a perfect glass surface.

But you cant buy them...
So I am getting some custom made.

I did some exact micrometer measurements.

Actual size:
CJSM1 46.75 x 39.22
CJSM2 53.12 x 70.87

With 0.3MM REMOVED for garanteed fit:
CJSM1 46.45 x 38.92mm
CJSM2 52.82 x 70.57mm

Corner radius 0.3mm all 4.

Works out at around £10 each plus any shipping.
IF I order 10 or more... I need 3 for chairs and 3 for spare CJSM2s...
So will order 6 for myself.

Anyone else interested?

That's amazing! Where are you getting them made?

They don't fit Omni2, do they?

Well if theres half a dozen I know how many to order! I personally have 5 CJSM2 and want a few spares as applying them is a one shot deal... If you get it wrong you need another go!

The ones they come with are rubbish. Just a bit of soft stretchy polythene plastic film. I just throw them away. I think theres still one on a CJSM2 in the box on my bench though. Keeps the dust off. But they are not too clear to use once installed.

Are any of these protectors available? Just picked up a new CJSM2 and would like to install some protection.

I didnt do it yet. But I discoovered a cheaper way.

That 9h hardness "glass" can be cut with a set of high quality scissors! So I made one from a smart phone one that I ordered for my phone. I ordered a pack of 3. Used one on my phone, and then cut one for both of my ZXD screens. And they were perfect. Quite simple actually. I took a sheet of sticky label paper. Cut that until I got A perfect fit. Took a few goes. Then stuck that onto the protector and carefully trimmed around it. And that was it. Perfect fit. The hard part is measuring accurately. But as long as you are careful you can trim with care too. So I will be doing all of mine that way. After you ruin a couple learning, and you can buy these things on ebay/amazon in packs of 10 you will get it. Then its easy! Indistinguishable from a bought one.

With QUALITY large 10 inch dressmaking scissors.

Mine are a few years old. They were about 12 UK pounds then about 25 now. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fiskars-Classi ... trJhj&th=1

Interesting info.

The 9h part, also 7h etc, is actually a test they do to measure resistance to scratching. By using a 9h PENCIL! I kid you not. And because you can scratch glass with a 9h pencil if you try hard then they call them glass. In reality its a hard plastic, with a very hard (literal glass hard) microscopically thin coating on the surface originally developed in the early 90s for motorcycle visors. In the UK they have to be these hard coated ones for road safety reasons... You cant see properly with a scratched vior.

So its a 0.25 or 0.30mm plastic sheet with an adhesive gum on one side and a hard coating on the other. So sharp large large scissors (to get perfect straight edges) work fine.

Great idea I hate scratched screens so would like to do this with the CJSM2 on my new chair, I've ordered another ZXD so would like to do those too. Guess I could do my iPhone 12 at same time.

Do you have a link/spec/supplier for the phone screen protectors you used?

No. I ordered a batch from ebay and they sent wrong ones for my phone. So I got a refund. But ANY phone with a bigger screen than a joystick one will work fine and thats basically all of them.

iPhone!

Great I'll order some. Won't they cut with an X-Acto modelling knife? Why can't you score and break as you would do with glass?

iPhone yuk I agree, another mistake

KNIFE? Never tried. Maybe. The glue may drag and not cut clean.

Is there a way to change the boot up screen on cjsm2. I'm assuming sunrise used a childs chair program for mine as starts with the Zippie logo. I thought it was just on my previous unit but the same thing happened on my new one when stalled. Minor I know but little things like this bug me czy
