I have an opportunity to buy an slightly used Bounder but, it is 18" wide instead of my usual 16". How difficult would it be to retrofit if I had an old 16" 646?

Never saw a bounder other than pics.

But I never saw a chair that wasnt adjustable over that range with simple tools.

In the UK, chairs mostly come with whatever seating the manufacturer of the chair makes. You decide what power options and sizes (that it is mechanically adjusted to fit you via tools) you need to fit you on the prescription form.

They are not generally sold as a base, with some other companies seat fitted to it.

In the same way if you were to buy a tesla, it doesent then have some other manufacturers seats fitted.

In the US things are a little different. Not sure why that is. But bounders have their own seats dont they? So it will already have what you need. It will likely need adjusting (basic tools) for the following:

Seat depth.
Seat width.
Arm width.
Arm height.
Arm top position in or outboard and back and forward to your preferences.
Controller position height and where you want it to be.
Backrest and headrest positions, widths, etc.
Footrest positon and length, plate angle.
Seating CG position.
Seat dump angle when fully lowered.
Programming.
Tidy all wires and check routing and tension and a quick once over to be sure everything is tight, correct and works correctly and safely.
Battery test.
Then you are good to go.

YOU know where you want all of those things while sat. Your job is to make sure that its all PUT into those exact positions as needed. Theres no magic. And no amount of measuring in advance or "experts" or "fitting" can do this for you. Much of it is pesonal preference and may change over time. Or be fine tuned over a few weeks of use.

ALL of that must be done on EVERY chair if you have any hope of it being set up correctly anyway. With the manufacturers seating or aftermarket seating. So its not like its an issue. New, used, or small adjustments on a daily or monthly basis as you decide to improve things after a little use and experience.

A chair isnt a fixed thing that you buy. Its a highly configurable tool. That YOU should take charge of, bull by the horns, and kick it into the shape YOU want it in. But its not hard. Everything is adjustable and configurable. Because everyone is different. Sometimes takes a little lateral thinkig to chieve.

If you want to fit a seat from another chair then who knows. I could do that. Depending on design. E.G permobil for would be very difficult as the base is part of the seating design. It may be plug and play, may need surgery. Inc wiring and programming and seating modules, mounting bracketry etc. Depends whats there, already.

Bounder do a Recaro seat option so the standard bounder base has probably got mounting points for a seat frame already on there. If so, you'll just need a suitable frame or some brackets making to put whatever seat you fancy on.

The chair is used. I am getting a good deal on it but, the frame is 18X18. My current chair is 16X18. I would need a new seat pan and back frame. Can I take a seat pan and back frame from any old chair?

The chairs are the same.
I doubt they make 2 different chassis with two different widths... Or in fact many. They MAY make a narrower one for skinny people or kids. Most manufacturers dont. They just add a narrower back and everything else adjusts to wherever you want it.

It will be adjustable.

You MAY need a different width back but thats not critical.

One for people that are normal.

The rest is just minor adjustnments or different width back cushions and your own seat cushions.

Own a screwdriver and an allen key? Then you can adjust it or order a different back cushion.

It depends on its design.
Non of mine interchange. But I cut one down, threw one away (not needed) and on the Q700 it wasnt needed as it was adjustable and can be widened or narrowed.
If not then its trivial. Dont worry.
You are only taliking abou 1 inch each side. The arms probably allow for more adjustment than this and you wont need do anything other than adjust!

Not an expert on Bounder, but most rehab style chairs tend to have frames that can be adjusted for width, usually in 1" increments. You might or might not need a new seat pan (the (usually) sheet metal bit the cushion sits on... Going down, it can be 'adjusted' with a drill and a saw to fit... Going up in size is harder because you can't glue bits on...

If you want a Bounder, seems like a reasonable thing to do to grab it and make the thing fit you...

I don't think so. Everything is welded on. Nothing is adjustable.

What part is welded on? Never saw a chair that couldnt be adjusted for seat depth, width, etc in my life. Makes no sense.
