Clock on Permobil Street won’t hold time

Postby kendradog » 18 Dec 2024, 20:10

The clock in the joystick/controller display in my 14-year-old Permobil Street won’t keep time. I only drive it rarely now (because my own health hasn’t held up, not the Street’s which still runs fine) but often after a few weeks the clock is set to some random time. Any ideas?

Some real time clocks have their own (usually button cell) battery. If that's the case on the Street, you may simply need to replace it.

I think its the clock in the joystick that the poster is refering to.

I have had a lot of power modules and joysticks apart over the years and dont remember seeing a cell.

I would expect it to be in the power module if one existed, since thats where all the settings, error codes etc which all have a time stamp, live. And theres definitely non in there.

Why dont they still make the street? Thats probably the only permobil chair that I would have ever considered. About the only thing wrong with those is the flexi centre post seat lift. But the rest of it liiks fine as a chair. It just needed modernising, black tyres etc.

The same thing happens to me on a Jive, it has a CJSM1 and apart from the clock it also happens to the odometer, it randomly changes the figure to whatever it likes, it started doing so when its use was very sporadic.

Do you have 2 chairs?

To find out where this capacitor or battery lives.

Swap joysticks.

If the fault goes with the joystick then its in the joystick. If it stays with the chair then its in the power module.

At least you then know which half to investigate or swap. You need spares anyway. So once you figure out which part its in just ebay a replacement. I just bought a 120A power module £45 delivered. as new. And a CJSM (1) brand new £85.

Then once its all working correctly you can dissassemble the PM or CJSM that is faulty and look for a replacement capacitor or battery as required. Even if you dont find a fault then at least you have emergency spares. Because sooner or later one will actually fail! Probably a joystick from experience.

I offered 85 and it was accepted. There are others at 85 new in box too. Seems to be many around at the moment.

However you have to "fish"...

Today for e.g the only r-net parts at a sensible price is this single 6 channel seating and lighting module.
These go for 40 to 160 depending on day, week, luck. I got 3 for £50 or less each. One included a bus cable and a actuator wiring loom too.

And a simply joystick

But not what you are looking for. But you are in no hurry. Just check daily. If things appear cheap, buy! They very rapidly vanish as people like me grab them fast!

I have two chairs with r-net but the other is permobil and the joystick, as you know, does not have a cable, the connector is on the base. I know I should have spare parts but I move that chair maybe a dozen times a year, otherwise it works correctly, I check eBay and other websites from time to time, sometimes you can find complete chairs for the price of a spare part. The links you put are really good.

My fluke 289 has a similar issue. Or it did. On its main board theres a tiny supercapacitor. It dies.

All it does here, is hold the time and date while you swap batteries. I have twice sent this in to fluke and they replace with a brand new meter... Every 5 or 6 years a replacement! Lifetime warranty.

See pic. This is MUCH smaller in reality than it appears to be in this image.

Check the PM on your chair for something similar. Its 5.5V. Some are 2.7V. Theres lots available so swapping it shouldnt take more than a few mins.
